Namui nu pirꝋ [Our Territory]

The solo exhibition Namui nu pirø (Our Territory) presents the work of Julieth Morales, a Misak artist from Colombia, whose practice centers on collective action, female identity, and the harmonization of the territory. Morales rejects the notion of artwork as an act of individual originality, understanding creation as a spiraling process of growth intrinsically linked to collective commitment.

The title, in Namtrik, emphasizes the sacred connection with the territory, nurtured by daily female rituals like weaving and lighting the fire. The exhibition includes new works and recontextualizations of previous pieces. The starting point was a women's gathering where Morales reinterpreted marriage roles, questioning the obedience imposed by colonization. This led to installations like Utrap (Blow) (2025), which elevates the act of spinning (a key trait of the Misak woman) to a dimension of collective empowerment. Untak (Loving Everything Surrounding You) (2025) inscribes wedding advice from godmothers with soil from the territory, highlighting female orality and the rewriting of tradition. Through her practice, Morales redefines Misak identity and Indigenous creation, showcasing it as a living, dynamic entity in dialogue with the globalized world.
